Complete attendance guide

Understand your attendance before it becomes a problem.

Attendance rules can affect exam eligibility, internal marks, course completion and academic standing. A simple percentage is useful, but students often need to know what happens next: how many classes are required to recover, or how many can be missed while remaining above the minimum.

How attendance percentage is calculated

Divide the number of classes attended by the total number of classes conducted, then multiply the result by 100.

Attendance % = (Attended Classes ÷ Total Classes) × 100

Classes needed to reach a target

When attendance is below the target, each future class you attend increases both the attended count and the total count. The calculator solves for the minimum number of consecutive attended classes required to reach the selected percentage.

Classes you can safely miss

When your attendance is already above the target, the calculator estimates how many upcoming classes can be missed before the percentage drops below the selected limit.

Common planning scenarios

Below target See the minimum number of consecutive classes needed to recover.
Exactly at target Missing even one class may immediately push attendance below the limit.
Above target Estimate how much attendance buffer is currently available.
Changing target Compare 65%, 70%, 75%, 80% or a custom institutional requirement.

Important limitations

  • Institutions may calculate attendance separately for each subject.
  • Laboratories, tutorials and lectures may have different attendance rules.
  • Medical leave or approved exemptions may be handled separately.
  • Official portal data should be treated as the final record.
Frequently asked questions

Everything to know about attendance calculations.

These answers explain target percentages, recovery calculations and safe-miss limits.

How is attendance percentage calculated?

Divide attended classes by total classes and multiply by 100.

How many classes do I need for 75% attendance?

The answer depends on your current attended and total class counts. The calculator solves for the smallest number of future classes you must attend continuously.

How many classes can I miss safely?

If you are above your target, the calculator estimates how many upcoming classes can be missed before your percentage falls below that target.

Can I use a target other than 75%?

Yes. Enter the exact percentage required by your institution or department.

Should I calculate attendance subject-wise?

Use subject-wise calculations when your institution applies attendance rules separately to each course or subject.

Is this result official?

No. Use it for planning, but rely on your official student portal or academic office for the final attendance record.
